Textadept - A Fast, Minimal, and Stunningly Extensible Cross-Platform Text Editor
Free application software download Windows
Textadept is a fast, minimalist, and remarkably extensible cross-platform text editor for programmers. It’s written in a mixture of C and Lua, and relentlessly optimized for speed and minimalism over the years. It is the ideal editor for programmers who want infinite extensibility without sacrificing speed or succumbing to code bloat and featuritis. It also has a terminal version, ideal for work on remote machines.
It uses themes to customize its look and feel, with built-in light, dark and terminal themes. It can autocomplete words in files, and can display API documentation. It can also be entirely keyboard driven, and defines key bindings for many common actions. You can easily reassign existing bindings, or create your own. The GUI allows you to copy, paste, match braces, duplicate or move lines up or down, change the color of a word or an entire paragraph, swap occurrences of a word or phrase, highlight and indent blocks of comments, select everything between XML tags, quotes, or parentheses, turn off autocomplete for a file or an entire project, toggle block comments, make words uppercase or lowercase, and more.
It’s a small and lightweight program, requiring tens of MB of RAM at startup, and hardly using any CPU while under load. It is completely self-contained, and doesn’t require installation or administrator privileges. It can be dropped in any folder, and can run directly off a USB drive. It also won’t leave any new entries in the Windows registry.
